Superinvestor Stock Rankings

This is based on the stock holdings of the Superinvestors tracked by Dataroma.

This page is on break as Dataroma is now blocking bots. There is probably a way to get around that, but I will respect that and not try to do so.

When I have time, I may revive this on the Brooklyn Investor website by getting the data directly from the SEC website.

The most recent date of update is the date on the top left-hand corner of the spreadsheet. This will usually be run after the close on Friday.

Click on TTM/PE, Forward/PE, EV/EBITDA or PB to get the respective sorts.

(999.00 means data was not available (had to stick a number in there as the text "NA" screwed up the sort)

Please ignore the message (if there is one) that says "Updated automatically every 5 minutes" because the underlying spreadsheets are not live.

  2. Hi,

Thank you for putting this together. Very useful.

Quick question - how did you get EV/EBITDA from the Yahoo Finance to this spreadsheet? Is there a way to do this via the API, rather than having to copy/paste manually?

  3. You can probably get it via the API. Maybe Google Finance has something similar. But in this case, I scraped all the data from the statistics page using Python.

  4. BH pops up in this screener. Do you plan to write a post about that company? I'm curious to see your perspective about the stock now that Sardar Biglari controls 49% of the company after his tender offer. I enjoyed reading your post about his annual meeting several years ago. I've attended several of his annual meetings but I can't determine if he could potentially become a crook (steal from shareholders) or if he will become the next Warren Buffett.

    1. My thoughts really haven't changed much. I don't think he is the next Buffett, but I don't think he's a crook either. He might be aggressive in seeking compensation and things like that, but I do think that he honestly wants to make himself and his shareholders wealthy. I know it often seems like he is into paying himself at the expense of shareholders, but I do think his ego is tied to the shareholder returns of BH so believe that he wants shareholders to do well (unlike most CEO's who don't care at all about shareholders). Again, I know it often doesn't seem like it, but that's what I believe.

Over time, I do believe he will make money because he does seem very intelligent and competent. There is a risk that he gets overconfident and makes a mistake, but he does seem to be very aware of risk.

One problem is due to his style (and some of his actions), people seem not to like him and he doesn't seem to care. I think it matters over time. This is a big difference between Buffett and Biglari too. If he like Buffett so much, I think he should learn from that aspect of it too. You rarely see anyone have anything bad to say about Buffett, but no Biglari discussion anywhere exists without a bunch (often majority) of haters. That's not a great place to be...

    2. Thanks for your response. I generally agree with your assessment. I'm also afraid his hubris may get the best of him. Based on my valuation, I think BH is very undervalued but there seems to be a Biglari discount for his brashness.

Thanks for writing your blog. I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts. I can't figure out who you are but you are clearly very smart and experienced in the markets.

    3. Thanks for the comment, and don't worry if you can't figure out who I am because I am not a 'known' person writing anonymously or anything like that at all...

  5. Nice to use google sheet to have an automated update in every 5minute. Care to share how you do it?

Biglari can't be the same like Warren Buffett. Why? I don't think he is as frugal like Warren Buffett. Personally, I find BH is over priced based on the value investing criteria.

    1. Hi, google updates the google sheets every 5 minutes but the data in the spreadsheet is actually only updated once a week, usually on Friday after the close. Thanks for dropping by.

And yes, Biglari is very different than Buffett.

  6. ROA would be a nice add, as would P/S

    1. Yeah, there are a lot of things that would be nice, but having a bot update google sheets is a slow process and adding more cells that need to be updated would make this thing take even longer so I won't add any more columns for now.
